Join Lana Lopesi (Editor-in-Chief and Visual Arts Co-Editor) & Rosabel Tan (Founding Editor and Director) of The Pantograph Punch in a conversation about critical art writing and reviewing. We will look at questions such as, what purpose does it serve? What does good art writing look like? Or for artists, how do you pitch your work to the critics?

Friday 8 September 9.00AM-12.00PM

VENUE: Blue Oyster Art Project Space 

As a practical output from the day before, Pt II offers the opportunity for feedback from others in the room, participants and facilitators from Pantograph Punch and Blue Oyster. Considering the points of conversation from Pt I, this workshop will see practical editing and skill-sharing. Participants will need to submit a short, recent text on registration for this part of the workshop. 

Registrations extended until Wednesday 6 September

This workshop is free to attend and proudly a part of 2017 New Zealand Young Writers Festival. Participants are asked to submit a short, recently written text (500-1000 words) as well as a short bio. Due to restrictions of space, this workshop is limited in numbers.

Pantograph Punch has been publishing arts and cultural commentary in Aotearoa New Zealand since 2011, from personal essays to criticism and reviews to interviews and analysis. They make videos and podcasts and produce unique live events, which are broadcast over the summer on RNZ.

Lana Lopesi is a critic of art and culture based in Auckland. Lana’s writing has featured in a number of publications in print and online including Art New Zealand, Un Magazine and Runway. Lana currently writes a monthly column for Design Assembly called Graphic Matters where she is also a Contributing Editor looking after the Aotearoa Design Thinking series. She was also the Founding Editor of #500words.

Rosabel Tan is the founding editor of The Pantograph Punch, and leads the site's developmental projects, including events, strategic partnerships, memberships and sponsorships. She holds an MA with distinction in Creative Writing and Psychology and was an inaugural recipient of the Lancewood/Horoeka Reading Grant. Her writing has been published in Sport, Hue & Cry, 1972, Metro and The Spinoff. Elsewhere, she leads audience development projects with galleries and performing arts companies, and her clients include Auckland Art Gallery, QAGOMA, the Museum of Brisbane, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and City Gallery.
