POST– Postal Project: Call for Proposals
Blue Oyster is calling for proposals for an upcoming series of printed projects which fit inside an A5 envelope and will be distributed to subscribers via post.
We plan to send three separate ‘mail outs’ which will each include a selection of individual projects which respond to the limitations of the envelope creatively. Possible projects may include (but are not limited to) writing, drawing, instructions, photographs, provocations, games, directions, small publications, maps, or at home/DIY exhibitions. Each proposal will need to be reproducible in an edition of 200.
Based on the ‘New York Correspondence School’ and similar Mail Art projects, we aim to use an accessible method of circulation (the postal system and people’s own homes) as an alternative to institutional exhibition spaces. We hope these mail outs will prompt participation and collaboration which encourage a different kind of being together, being together through being apart, especially in different neighbourhoods and cities.
Successful applicants will receive an artist fee and the support of Blue Oyster staff and Gilbert May at Point Design in the development, design and production stages of their project if required and as needed.
We invite proposals from practitioners across Aotearoa, however, given the recent opportunities to rethink our relationship with our local environment and the spaces we occupy everyday, particular attention and emphasis will be given to Ōtepoti-based practitioners.
The proposal process is simple: 2-3 sentences about your idea, 1-2 indicative images and a short biography.
Please send your proposal to director@blueoyster.org.nz.
Applications close Friday 5 June, 4pm.
