Join guest presenters: Auckland based established artist Ruth Watson and Christchurch based Director of The Physics Room Melanie Oliver in a workshop focusing on developing your skills, resources and experiences as an artist.

Presenters: Ruth Watson and Melanie Oliver

Ruth Watson studied in New Zealand (BFA, University of Canterbury) and Australia (MVA, Sydney College of the Arts, PhD, Australian National University). She is currently a senior lecturer at Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland. With a career as a practicing artist spanning over 20 years, she has spent 12 of those years based in Berlin, Sydney and Canberra. She has presented over 25 solo exhibitions and was included in the 1992 Sydney Biennale, the first Auckland Triennale (2001), and in 'Unnerved: the New Zealand Project’, Gallery of Modern Art, Brisbane (2009). She recently co-curated the 2-part exhibition Expanded Map at RM103, and is represented by Two Rooms, Auckland. Melanie Oliver is currently Director of The Physics Room in Christchurch. Melanie began her career directing the Blue Oyster straight out of the Otago University Art History programme in 2002, and then went on to manage Enjoy Public Art Gallery in 2005. Prior to her appointment at The Physics Room, she was Assistant Curator at both Artspace Sydney (2011) and the Govett Brewster Art Gallery in New Plymouth (2007 – 2009). She has has worked independently as a writer and curator, developing projects such as Social Interface at Ramp Gallery (2012), Justene Williams and Sean Grattan at St Paul St Gallery (2012) and most recently has co-curated Watermarking with Laura Preston for the 2012 Liverpool Biennial.
