An introduction to Blender & how to make a 3D character with Connor Bridson
Thursday 21 April & Thursday 28 April 6pm – 7pm
These two workshops will introduce artists to Blender and go through the steps to build a 3D character. Blender is a free software used in game development as a creation suite for 3D rendering and modelling. Blender was created with the vision that everyone should be able to create 3D content. With free technical and creative production means, the software supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline—modelling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, even video editing and game creation.
The first workshop will introduce Blender and lead participants through the process of modelling and texturing a 3D character. The second workshop will be about rigging, animating and completing the character for use in a game or film of your own.

Connor Bridson (he/them, Pākehā) is a 3D Art Generalist who has been working in the game industry for 6 years after studying game art at Media Design School in Tāmaki Makaurau. He has worked on a large variety of game and non-game digital experiences in various fields of 3D art, and is currently an artist and co-director at Atawhai Interactive in Ōtepoti.

Prototype is a series of workshops and tutorials which aim to introduce artists to game-making. Facilitated and designed by Lisa Blakie (Narrative Director and Co-Director of Atawhai Interactive), in collaboration with Connor Bridson (co-director at Atawhai Interactive). Prototype will equip artists to experiment with elements of game development. The workshops include practical demonstrations of free software used in game development for 3D art and introductions to speculative thinking through Dungeons and Dragons tutorials which showcase the elements needed to build games, including character/narrative creation and world building.
