Otago Polytechnic Art and Design students present a group show of work produced in a workshop with German fashion photographer Ute Mahler at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery. During the workshop, Margo Barton of Otago polytechnic Fashion Department and Max Oettli, of the Photography Department assembled groups of fashion designers, photography students and models, encouraging students to work out a shoot strategy which respected the collections presented.
"The show we present here is very much the tip of an iceberg, and as these beautiful and dangerous objects do, most of the actual mass is hidden. The hiding place is the archives of the students, various internet sites, and of course, also in the cultural and technical enrichment the students were able to absorb from this unique opportunity." - Max Oettli
Ute Mahler a professor of photography at the Hamburg Technical University, and director of Berlin photography agency Ostkreuz worked with students during shoots allowing them to receive professional advice at industry standard. Mahler was brought to Dunedin by The Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations in cooperation with the Goethe-Institute for the DPAG’S Zeitgeist Becomes Form exhibition of German fashion photography.
